Head shot of Michael RohdeAbout the Speaker: Michael Rohde began weaving in 1974, spurred by a curiosity as to how cloth was made (and an unrealized ambition to weave a shirt for himself). Soon, he taught himself about rug-weaving  from Peter Collingwood’s books. Early on he began dyeing his own yarns for the rugs. Around 2003, he made the switch to tapestries, and shortly after to only using natural dyes. His work is in many museum collections, including the Textile Museum in Washington DC, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles in San Jose, CA,  the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, CA, the Racine Museum of Art in Wisconsin and the Art Institute of Chicago.
