About Us

The mission of Damascus Fiber Arts School, an Oregon non-profit formed in 2020, is to promote awareness and appreciation of the art and craft of hand weaving, as well as the opportunity to learn hand weaving and its related activities such as spinning and dyeing in an inclusive and welcoming environment.  All of our activities and events are open to the public. We are a community resource.

Our main activity is to offer classes at all levels, from introductory to advanced and specialty classes. We also organize intensive workshops taught by nationally and internationally known practitioners. In addition, we provide ongoing support to local practitioners by having a public open studio space with looms available for use, as well as rental looms. We also maintain a limited supply of materials available for purchase by the students and our community.

Our library has over 500 books, all related to fiber art topics. One of the many advantages to participating in our school activities is the ability to borrow these books.

To promote awareness of handweaving in the Portland metropolitan area and nearby local communities, Damascus Fiber Arts School organizes demonstrations at public events, lectures and presentations by nationally recognized artists as well as local artists, and small exhibits of  work by our community in libraries and other public venues.
