Small Expressions 2023 – A Visit

This blog post is by Jenny Bloom.

The week of August 21st, 2023, my husband, Mark, and I headed up to the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Museum in  La Conner, Washington, to see Small Expressions, a touring exhibit sponsored by the Handweavers Guild of America.

Small Expressions is an annual juried exhibition showcasing contemporary small-scale works (not to exceed 15 inches in any direction) using fiber techniques in any media. The exhibit did not disappoint!  Here are just a few examples.

The Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum is located in a beautifully restored 3-story Victorian mansion, a lovely venue, and well worth a visit. In addition to Small Expressions, there were two other  fascinating fiber exhibits:  Bojagi Journey and Modern Abstraction: A Journey in Paper & Stitch.

We stayed at the La Conner Inn, just a few blocks down from the museum. LaConner is a tiny, beautifully kept town in the Skagit Valley, at the edge of Shelter Bay, near Anacortes and Deception Pass. I highly recommend a visit as the town is also home to the Museum of Northwest Art, the Skagit County Historical Museum and many art galleries.
