Description

Instructor Phoebe McAfee will teach basic inkle weaving in this two-day workshop. Students will learn to warp the loom and weave a project. Yarn will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their own yarn as well.  If you have an inkle loom or can borrow one, please do that. We have a few that can be borrowed. If you want to buy your own, consider the Schacht Spindle Company and Weiner Dog Ranch for quality choices. No materials fee. Maximum class size is 10.

About the Instructor: Phoebe McAfee has been inkling since 1967 when she was an apprentice for two years with Rachel Brown in New Mexico. Rachel’s 14-year old son made an inkle loom for Phoebe. Rachel told her to use any scrap yarn and sell the woven bands in the studio store.  She wove hundreds and has been inkling ever since.  Phoebe McAfee worked as a professional tapestry weaver with the San Francisco Tapestry Workshop and wove on Mark Adams’ large tapestries for a long time. She is a member of the American Tapestry Alliance, Willamette Tapestry Artists, and Portland Handweavers Guild. She has woven at Damascus Fiber Arts School since 2014. Her work has been published in books and she has exhibited widely.
