Description
Anna Zell is the instructor for this two-day hands-on botanical printing workshop. Students will receive detailed instructions before the workshop so they can prepare their natural fabrics before mordanting the fabric in the workshop. The students will mix the mordants on day one. They will also thicken mordants to paint test strips for future dye/mordant reference. They will also make the dye stocks, using weld, cutch, logwood, Black Night scabiosa, cochineal or madder, and oak gallnut. Silk noil samples will be dyed then printed using discharge leaves, creating excellent references. On day two, students will dye and print yardages and will flower print bamboo socks (provided). This workshop is not for beginners. Maximum of 6 students. Students must be able to stand for a long time, have some upper body strength and the use of both hands. Materials fee of $30 payable to the instructor.
About the Instructor: The colors, textures and shapes found in nature have always filled me with appreciation and delight. The discovery of botanical printing was the perfect fit for me. It combines my background in apparel design and love of textiles with my interest in gardening. I don’t go anywhere without my pruning shears these days! See Anna’s work at www.facebook.com/annazelldesigns.
