About the Speaker:Â

Barbara Burns is a figurative artist working in the medium of tapestry. Barbara’s early work focused on faces. As her career progressed, more of the figure came into view. Her background in historic costume and textiles and interior design fuels Barbara’s interest in the female form and her desire to work in 3 dimensions. She has been pushing the boundaries of pulled warp weaving, coming off the wall with art corsets and large, vessel shapes.
Barbara’s tapestry instruction includes an 11 year mentorship with world renowned tapestry artists Archie Brennan and Susan Martin – Maffei, a 6-week course at West Dean College in England and numerous workshops with well known tapestry artists.
On both a national and international platform Burns has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows, received many awards for her tapestries, lectured, curated and juried exhibits and written for textile publications. Her work is in several private collections.
