Description

Description: Instructor Anna Zell invites students of her beginning eco-botanical dye workshops to advance their skills in this fun two-day workshop. Students will create samples using new dyes such as weld, cochineal, indigo and logwood, lac or Brazilwood. Three mordants, alum sulfate, copper sulfate and titanium oxalate, will be explored. The tannins will include oak gallnut, cutch and blackberry leaves. Anna will have an indigo vat ready to use for pre- and post-printing dips. Students will bring 1 to 1.5 yards of 100% silk or wool fabric, of a weight suitable for a top. Bring a pattern if you have one. A $30 materials fee is paid directly to the instructor.

Students must be able to stand for a long time, have some upper body strength and the use of both hands. Maximum class size is 8.

Photo of Anna ZellAbout the Instructor: The colors, textures and shapes found in nature have always filled textile artist Anna Zell with appreciation and delight. The discovery of botanical printing was the perfect fit for her. It combines her background in apparel design and love of textiles with her interest in gardening. She doesn’t go anywhere without her pruning shears these days!  See Anna’s work at www.facebook.com/annazelldesigns.
