Mary Lane is the instructor for this 3-day workshop. Collage is a fun way to create designs that are truly your own. Using images, scrap paper, buttons, thread, memorabilia – just about anything – collected from their own stash, students will learn how to create mixed media collages. Techniques are many – cutting, tearing, hole punching, sewing, drawing, stamping, stenciling and more. Techniques for gluing, embellishing, and finishing will be covered.

Students will experiment with constructing collages that illustrate themes that appeal to them, for example, a season, a color palette, a mood, abstraction, and so on. Two-dimensional design basics will be reviewed in the context of composition, layout and the use of color.

This class is intended to be a fun exploration of the many ways that a wide variety of materials can be combined into your own unique expression. Collage is an excellent way to loosen up and to try new directions. Although the focus of this class is not weaving, there will be an opportunity to discuss the weave-ability of the collages, how different areas might be interpreted in weaving and what modifications might be useful to make it more weave-able. Materials fee of $10 payable directly to the instructor. Maximum class size is 12.
