Congratulations to DFAS weaver Becky Smith

DFAS weaver Becky Smith recently had two of her tapestries accepted by the West Linn Arts and Culture Commission (WLACC) for their Fall Into Art show. This show in the West Linn Public Library, Community Room Gallery, 1595 Burns St, West Linn, OR 97068 runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2023.

Here is what Becky has to say about her tapestries.

Tapestry by Becky Smith "Egret in the Rushes"

Egret in the Rushes

I live near the confluence of the Tualatin and Willamette rivers and walk and kayak along their shores as well as the egress of Bernert Creek east of Willamette Park. I was sketching rivers and trees and it evolved into an egret in the rushes! This is my first piece after participating in a class on transparency last summer at the Damascus Fiber Arts School.

Tapestry by Becky Smith "Deep into Tulip"

Deep into Tulips

Tulips are among my favorite flowers and although they flower in the spring, we plant the bulbs in the fall and dream all winter of their coming beauty. A photo of one from our West Linn garden presented the perfect opportunity to learn traditional tapestry hachure techniques in a class taught by Mary Lane at the Damascus Fiber Arts School this past August.

Beautiful tapestries!  Well done, Becky!
