Candy Pratt’s Glass and Satin Basket

A big congratulations to Candy Pratt, a member of our community (click here to see Candy’s Artist Page) and DFAS Treasurer. Her glass and satin ribbon basket titled “Reaching for Light” won first place in the basketry exhibition at last summer’s Handweavers Guild of America Convergence 2022 conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Spring 2023 issue of Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot featured Candy’s basket with the following statement: “’Dogwood to Kudzu 2022′ features functional and nonfunctional, traditional and nontraditional forms in basketry techniques, made from common and uncommon materials.” The basket base and spokes are fused glass, while the satin ribbon was dyed 19 shades of gray and used for the basket weft.
